In the late 1960’s Carol Riggs got a part time job at Sturtz and Copeland answering the phones for Valentine’s Day, while she was working on her bachelor’s degree at CU. She immediately fell in love with the pace, the plants, and the customers, and it soon became her vocation. In 1976 she bought the business. In 1985, the greenhouses were moved to their current location, with an expanded garden center. Over the years the business structure has stayed the same, offering custom flower arrangements and a wide selection of plants.

Carol’s greatest joy has been the wonderful people she’s been able to work with over the years. Her devoted staff and loyal customers have been the biggest reason that she’s continued with the same business for over 50 years. She loves Boulder, and has tried to give back to the community by supporting the local schools, arts organizations, and the hospital. She has also enjoyed serving on several different boards over the years, including as the first female president of the Boulder Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and as the president of the Boulder Community Hospital board.

Carol raised three daughters. The family is a long line of Buffs, with Carol, her daughters, two sons-in-law, and two(of eight so far) grandchildren attending CU.
