Everett Long, the son of J.D., is a prominent Boulder County citizen who had served on many boards, including those of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, the Rotary Club and Town and Gown.

J.D. Long founded his family business, Long’s Gardens, roughly 90 years ago. The company began as a variety store with flower and vegetable seeds, herbs, garden tools and household supplies. J.D. later expanded into the seed business, selling by mail and soon issuing Long’s Gardens first catalog. The company soon became nationally and internationally respected for its quality and its work with irises.

Under Everett’s direction, Skyscraper Reservoir was built, located at upper Woodland Lake at an elevation of 11,000 feet. Everett has helped shape pivotal water conservation and development policies in Boulder County, upholding the traditional role of Long’s Gardens as an integral part of the Boulder business community.
